As we were staying right next door to the metro station we decided to take it to the Schonbrunn stop. The palace is not right when you get off. That's ok though if you can locate the tour buses you will have found the entrance.Short trip and very easy to find the train.
Schonbrunn palace was a summer residence for the Hapsburg rulers. It was built in the rococo style.I have seen many palaces in our travels and I try not to compare them, each one has its unique features. The rooms and grounds<more below>are definitely worth the trip to Vienna.
.We once again opted for the auto guide <.Although you can book a tour>it comes in 12 different language's.We were not feeling like we wanted a challenge so we chose English .We took the grand tour which included more rooms. For more information on admission and the palace here's a link There is still original pieces in the palace rooms.I remembered that Mozart performed in one of the rooms for Maria Theresa when he was six years old.
No pictures can do justice to the view we had when we came out of the palace and went around to the back. The site was definatly a wow moment for me.Looking over the gardens to the neptune fountain in the distance with the gloriette up on the hill.We spent most of the day here exploring,Walking through the Vienna forest,Seeing an egyptian obellisk tucked away at the end of a path.Roman ruins they found on the grounds and put all in one place.A labyrinth and a bird sanctuary to name some of the sites.Of course there is the schobrunn zoo as well.
My only wish is that our camera worked better that day.It was one of the overcast days of our trip. After our time at Schoebrunn we returned to historical Vienna and toured other places of interest. To share in the sights we saw please visit Vienna page.See you there
